What’s the Deadline for Applications?

The above job opportunities are open for the next six months.

You can apply during this period if you meet the requirements.

The starting and relocation dates depend on you – your wishes and possibilities.

Requirements for Specialist Doctors and Doctors Pursuing Specialization

To even apply to work in the Irish healthcare system, you need to meet two basic requirements:

1. Own a Work Licence; active or passive registration in the IMC Specialist or General registry

You can’t start applying for jobs before you obtain an IMC license. We have described the process of obtaining this license in detail. Keep in mind it takes about six months. So, if you are interested in one of the aforementioned jobs, it’s probably best to kickstart the process as soon as possible.

2. Knowing English at least at a B2-C1 level, i.e. having an IELTS certificate

Two Available Employment Models

Doctors can choose one of the following two employment models:

  • “Locum”

The work period lasts for a minimum of 3 weeks onward.

  • “Permanent”

You sign a 6- or 12- month contract. After this period expires, you can renew the contract or sign a new one with another hospital (Irish doctors are prone to internal fluctuations to gather as much knowledge and skills as possible from their colleagues from different hospitals).

Both employment models have their pros and cons. The decision usually depends on your personal preferences, specialization, and long-term professional goals.

What Are the Benefits of Working in the Irish Healthcare System?

Here are only a few main benefits of working in the Irish healthcare system:

  • Highest doctor salaries in Europe
  • Ability to choose between “locum” and “permanent” employment
  • Gaining international experience
  • A chance to refine your English
