From Romania to Sweden…

We kicked off our conversation by asking Loredana how she made the huge decision to move in the first place.

“I decided to leave Romania a few years ago. When the opportunity to go to Sweden arose, I didn’t want to miss it,” says Loredana. She chose Sweden to decrease the stress of being a medical nurse in Romania.

We’ve recently heard a similar story from Maja Marton, a medical nurse from Croatia, who told us that she decided to move to Sweden due to everyday stress, no time for private life, and hefty overtime.

It seems like healthcare stories are similar in many central and eastern European countries. But did anything really change in Sweden?

Loredana says it did.

“I’m very satisfied with my job. It’s crucial for me that I work without stress,” she says.

The Path to Sweden

Getting a license for a medical nurse in Sweden is not easy, says Loredana. It requires collecting a number of documents, such as Certificates from the home country’s Chamber of Medical Technicians, filing them and waiting, and – most importantly – learning the language.

“To work as a medical nurse in Sweden, you have to have a C1 level of language.”

That’s exactly why Loredana started attending Zrinka’s Swedish School. That way, she could learn online and complete all necessary levels, from the lowest (A1) to the needed one (C1). On top of that, lecturer Zrinka has a years-long experience in helping EU healthcare workers move and find jobs in Scandinavia.

All of that was an added benefit, but Loredana says that she ultimately chose Zrinka’s Swedish School because “a good friend recommended it.”

Luckily, Loredana didn’t need to start from zero. She began at a B1 level and quickly progressed all the way to C1.

That’s when she met the final necessary requirement for moving to Sweden. Today, she happily works at a hospital in Sweden and is satisfied with a better balance between her private and professional life. “Nothing in life is impossible,” says Loredana.
