Open competitions for specialist doctors in France and Belgium
29. May 2023.

The first tenders of this year were opened for the jobs of doctors who would like to further their education in France and Belgium. Countries with rich historical traditions and culture, French language and the finest gourmet products such as chocolate and wine are looking for specialist doctors who would move permanently and continue to specialize.
Belgium is a popular European destination for expats from all over the world, with an excellent standard of living, low crime rate, good infrastructure and rich history, architecture and cuisine. It has three autonomous regions, each of them has a different culture, and expats most often look for career opportunities in Flanders, the north of Belgium or Brussels. Belgian culture is closely related to the language of the speaking area, so each area has its own characteristics. For example, the Flemish-speaking community is closer to the English- and Dutch-speaking culture, while French speakers draw more from French customs and their way of life.
A high-quality medical education system and numerous prestigious universities and hospitals offer programs for doctors and specialists who want to advance their careers. Doctors can choose from a large number of available specialties, which provides an opportunity to develop and gain experience in the area of interest. The Belgian medical program is recognized worldwide, which facilitates further international specialization, work in global health or in international medical missions if the doctor so wishes. In addition, Belgium has a strong tradition of medical research and makes active efforts in cooperation with other world researchers.
France also offers an excellent standard of living, rich history, art and cuisine, but in terms of life, they have their own unique philosophy of living. The French live in être (to be) instead of faire (do) or avoir (have). In France, life is not about work, money or having the most beautiful and expensive things. Instead, the French way of life is about enjoying the best moments of life, be it social gatherings (with “apéros”), French cuisine, art or philosophy. It’s all about living in the present moment and finding pleasure in most things in life.

France’s universal hybrid healthcare system is considered one of the best in the world, with high-quality medical care. Doctors work an average of 50-60 hours a week, the work is done from Monday to Friday, and on-call on weekends depends on the position in which you are employed. The minimum salary of a doctor with a hospital contract is €4,130 gross without bonus and overtime, and in Belgium it is €6,585.
The most sought-after specialist doctors for positions in France and Belgium in May and June are:
- specialist in anesthesiology
- specialist in gynecology
- specialist in radiology
- specialist in psychiatry
- specialist in internal medicine
- specialist in pulmonology
To apply for the competition, it is mandatory to have passed the DELF or another recognized French language exam at level B2. In addition, you should prepare a resume and motivation letter, recommendations from colleagues and former bosses, a diploma and other certificates obtained through seminars and education. It is necessary to translate the collected documentation into French and apply for the recognition of your medical diploma to the competent state body for medicine. Once your medical degree has been recognized by a Belgian or French government agency or ministry, you are free to register and practice as a doctor.
We invite all doctors interested in the French-speaking area to contact us so that we can inform them about all the possibilities and details of the potential hodogram of the process itself. We provide assistance in the preparation of CV and portfolio, help in obtaining a work license and find the right offers for you.
Applications are open during May and June 2023. Contact us via e-mail [email protected] or the contact form below and ask any questions. Don’t miss this opportunity and become part of a culture that enjoys the moment.
